骨粗鬆症患者の手術においては、若年者と異なり骨の脆弱性に配慮することが必要になる。本書では脊椎・上肢・下肢の部位ごとに、術前(手術適応)・術中(手術手技)・術後(離床時期、合併症への対応)でそれぞれポイントとなる事項を記載し、また脆弱骨で起こりやすいインプラント周囲骨折についても記述した。術前対策では、万が一に備えて術前に「準備しておくもの」を項目ごとに記載し、また術中で特に重要な事項は「成功の秘訣」として別枠で掲載。術前後の骨粗鬆症治療薬の使い分けや服用期間など、骨折連鎖防止への対処法についても言及した。
