Abstract 「はじめに」ニューロリハビリテーションの流れとして, 使用依存性脳可塑性の発見とあいまって進歩したconstraint-induced movement therapy(CI療法), 各種ニューロモデュレーション, そしてリハビリテーションロボットという一連の治療手段の発展がある. さらに今後の発展が最も期待される方法として, virtual reality(VR)を用いたリハビリテーション治療が注目されている. 本稿では, その歴史, 定義と条件, リハビリテーション医療以外への応用例, そしてリハビリテーション医療への応用とその利点や今後の展望について概説する. 「VRの歴史」VRの原型は, 1962年に発表されたSensorama(Experience theater)という機器である. 映像に合わせて音響, 振動や風, さらに臭いまでも同期する没入型システムであった.
