Abstract	「抄録」本研究の目的は, 認知症高齢者へより個別性のある服薬支援を行うために, 薬の認識や服用している薬(効能)の理解・関心を本人に直接たずねて明らかにすることである. 方法は, 認知症専門病院に入院している高齢者30人を対象に, 「何の薬を飲んでいるかご存じですか?」などの構造化した質問を行い, その反応を観察した参加観察調査である. 観察によって得たデータをもとに, 「くすり」の認識や薬(効能)の理解, 薬の説明に対する関心を重症度ごとに記述統計で示した. 結果, 「くすり」の認識はMMSEが0点以外の全員が薬を「くすり」と認識できた. 一方, 薬(効能)を理解していたのは中等度以上の29人中10人であり, 薬(効能)の説明に関心を示したのは重度を含む27人中24人であった. これらの結果から, 認知症高齢者は「くすり」の認識や薬への関心が高く, 重症度によっては服用している薬(効能)を理解している可能性がある前提で支援を行う必要性が示唆された.

Abstract	This study aimed to clarify whether older adults with dementia could recognize medication, and to clarify their understanding of and interest in the effects of the medications they are taking in order to provide more personalized medication support. A participant observation method was adopted in which 30 older adults, hospitalized at a facility specializing in dementia, were asked structured questions and their responses were noted. Recognition of "medication," understanding of the effects of medications, and interest in explanations about medications were displayed as descriptive statistics by patient severity based on the data collected. Results indicated that all participants with an MMSE higher than 0 successfully recognized medications as "medications," and only 10 of the 29 participants with a moderate or better condition understood the effects of their medications. Meanwhile, 24 of 27 participants, including those with a severe condition, demonstrated an interest in hearing an explanation of the effects of their medications. These results suggest the need to provide support based on the as-sumptions that older adults with dementia are highly able to recognize "medication," have a strong interest in medication, and may understand the effects of the medi-ca-tions they are taking, depending on the severity of their condition.
