| Abstract | [Abstract] This study investigated the effects of individual perceptions of failure on psychological safety in nursing students. A survey was administered to 248 college students majoring in nursing, and the data was analyzed for the group of respondents as a whole and for each academic year. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that first-year students perceived failure as something that aroused negative emotions, and as something that would inevitably occur, and this influenced their psychological safety. For fourth-year students, failure was perceived as an opportunity for learning, and this influenced their psychological safety. These results suggest that perceptions of failure that influence the psychological safety of students may change over time. Future studies should investigate relationships between psychological safety and perceptions of failure in more detail, and explore approaches to improving aspects of psychological safety that are associated with individual perceptions of failure. |
