| Abstract |
Saireito, a combination of Syousaikoto and Goreisan, is used for subacute and chronic inflammatory diseases with signs of edema, diarrhea, vomiting, and other signs of water and dampness. In this report, we report three cases of refractory edema of the extremities with pain that responded to Saireito. Case 1 is a woman in her 60s who had chemotherapy for primary malignant lymphoma of bone. She had intractable edema in both of her lower legs. Administration of Saireito reduced her edema and pain. Case 2 is a woman in her 80s. She had systemic scleroderma, with painful ulcer in her right index finger, pain in both of her lower limbs, and edema in her lower legs. Administration of Saireito improved her edema and her quality of life (QOL). Case 3 is a woman in her 50s who had right mastectomy and axillary lymph node excision. She had lymphedema and pain in her right upper limb and edema in her lower legs. Administration of Saireito ameliorated her edema and pain-related-insomnia. The hydrating and anti-inflammatory effects of Saireito could have improved the patient's painful lymphedema and QOL. |
