Abstract | [Abstract]: Exercise therapy is one of the most often recommended nonsurgical treatments for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Supervised physical therapy for patients with LSS has been reported to lead to better outcomes in terms of pain and disability than unsupervised exercise, and to be associated with lower likelihood of receiving surgery within 1 year. Psychological factors such as anxiety and fear-avoidance beliefs about pain are more closely associated with physical activity than are back and leg pain in patients with LSS. Psychological treatments or protein nutrition in combination with exercise are effective for patients who underwent surgery for LSS. This paper summarizes the evidence of exercise therapy for patients with LSS. |
