| Abstract |
[Abstract] A survey was conducted among 128 nurses at Hakodate Municipal Hospital who provided consent to participate in the study to assess their perceptions of physical restraints in general (non-psychiatric) wards. Previous studies have shown that nurses with postgraduate learning experience in dementia care and physical restraint are less likely to recognize the need for physical restraint. However, this survey did not find any significant differences, rather, it highlighted the lack of learning experience. Therefore, the educational systems need to be urgently improved to minimize the use of physical restraint. Nurses, especially those with limited clinical experience, appear to experience significant anxiety when providing care without physical restraints, highlighting the need for extensive educational support. |
